Intuition Is Your Soul Showing You the Future
My familiar office was expansive, with room to breathe. I’d worked hard for that office with a view, after seven years at this corporation. Back then, my work ethic was my worth, so I poured every ounce of myself into climbing as high as I could to the top. So much so that I was due for a sabbatical when his email came through, inviting me to visit him in Australia.
Three weeks, just the two of us. Traveling together when we had barely been on two dates. It would be so out of character for little old me to move so boldly. But something nudged. For me, intuition is a quiet little knock on a door in my mind. It's a soft voice that says, “What have you got to lose?” It wasn’t until I was having drinks with a more daring and bold friend of mine who pushed me. “You have to go!” She said, “If you don’t, you’ll always wonder, what if.” It just seemed too perfect, the timing of this invitation with my sabbatical being due.
So I left every bit of my responsible shy little self back in Seattle and I flew all by myself to Australia in my 20’s. It was the boldest move I’ve ever made. Even my boss said “Are you sure you want to do that?” Once my mind is made up, though, there is no stopping me. I turn a corner in my head, and there is no going back.
It was safe enough. We had known each other for a long time from afar, we had mutual friends. I knew him well enough to know that if it didn’t work out, we’d be able to travel together as friends. In fact, the opposite happened. The moment I knew came on a sailboat in the Whitsunday Islands, a magical place, wrapped in peaceful beauty. I’d never seen water that blue, a turquoise I can still picture to this day, 23 years later.
The moment was a subtle one. Subtle like we still are today. Our love is quiet and steady yet solid as a rock. After dinner on the boat, we were in the galley playing cards. It was almost as if my knowing floated ahead in time and I felt this settling in feeling of certainty. It felt like, “This is it”. I could see us doing this long into our elder years, the two of us together. Boating, talking, laughing. His sense of humor, always perfect for my every mood. Making me laugh still seems to be one of his favorite things.
On that boat, all those miles away, I began to understand what intuition is. It's your soul showing you the future. There is a resonance in some things that hits, just so. In a way that you can only hear if you are quiet enough. If you act on it, it's like the Universe rewards you for listening. The Universe is saying, “Yep and there’s more where that came from, so keep following”! That voice has never let me down since, and with each nudge, it gets better and better.
